Lamp Project
Famous Lamp Designer Poster
Design Process
I wanted a lamp inspired by characters in my favorite books. The shape would be a dodecahedron which is a shape made of 12 pentagons. 11 of the 12 sides would have unique designs related to the characters and the last side would be the bottom which wood be a wooden block that would house the lighting fixture. However, I ended up changing my design from the original dodecahedron shape to a simple rectangular prism. I found that with 12 sides having its own unique design, it was too chaotic especially since I wanted a more elegant design. Here are the CAD drawings of the original design I drew before I changed my design.
I changed my design to a 6 sided rectangular prism that would only have designs on 5 sides: the top and the sides leaving the bottom open for the lighting. I also changed what my lamp was based off of. Originally I based my lamp off of 10 characters In liked from 5 different novels however the design is now based on ChroNoiR and Youtube streaming duo from the company Nijisanji.

Fabrication Process
For the fabrication process 90% of it was just laser cutting out all the pieces. First I cut test pieces on mat board and wood to see if my designs would work and if I liked them. After cutting out the test pieces, I cut out the actual pieces on 1/4 inch plywood. I sanded down the pieces to get rid of the soot and wiped it down with a wet paper towel to get rid of the sawdust. I glued colored construction paper to the backs of the panels to add color, dim the lighting, and make it so you can't look through the lamp. After that, I glued the panels together using school glue and let it dry.
